NUR-SULTAN. KAZINFORM - Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Saparkhan Omarov took part in the web conference "The Role of the Islamic Organization for Food Security in the development of the food supply chain between the private sectors of the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation." This was reported by "Kazinform" with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was attended by representatives of the OIC member states, as well as Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Yousef Khalawi and Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security Yerlan Baidaulet.
Yousef Khalawi, a major international investment specialist, member of the board of directors of a number of international companies, was to visit Kazakhstan in July 2020 at the invitation of the secretariat of the Islamic Organization for Food Security in order to strengthen cooperation between the IOFS and ICCIA, as well as develop the Halal standard in Central Asia. However, due to the pandemic, this visit was postponed to a later date.
During the online conference, information and views were exchanged on investment and Islamic finance, strengthening cooperation in trade, commerce, information technology, insurance, and establishing ties in the private sector of the OIC member countries.
Saparkhan Omarov noted the importance of the role of international organizations in food security issues.
“The Ministers of Agriculture of the OIC member countries have decided to create the Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA). I am confident that this will create a strong foundation on which our cooperation in the field of quality standards and increased production and trade in food will be strengthened. The IFPA will include major food producers from member countries of the Islamic Organization for Food Security. The objectives of the association are to expand trade, attract Islamic finance, exchange information, establish contacts, increase exports and imports between the member countries of the organization,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Saparkhan Omarov recalled that the situation with the coronavirus demonstrated the real importance of food security issues, as well as timely and stable provision of food to the population.
