The IOFS Senior Officials Meeting held on August 27 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, discussed topical issues of the organizational establishment.
At the opening session, Vice Minister of Kazakhstan commented on the state of agricultural affairs in Kazakhstan and importance of food security in the OIC area. The Vice Minister called on the OIC Member States to join IOFS stressing the importance of collaboration and partnership ties between the countries in agricultural development and food security domains.
From his side, His Excellency Governor of the General Authority for Green, Eng. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Fares stated that Saudi Arabia plays an important role in supporting IOFS throughactive membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to national policies and strategies of IOFS, as they fall in line with more global goals, such as the Sustainable Development Goals.
He noted that the context of the meeting had been characterized by fluctuations and challenges of the modern economy that impact economic, social and political aspects of Member countries, as well as their agricultural development and food security situation.
After the welcoming statements, Acting Director General Yerlan Baidaulet provided the participants with progress report and presentation of the 3rd Executive Board Report approved by its members on July 3, 2019 in Nur-Sultan. The participants also reviewed a presentation of IOFS Analytical System and a Grain Fund proposal submitted for approval of the senior officials for further consideration and development.
