IOFS VISIT TO TUNIS STARTED WITH FRUITFUL MEETINGS

IOFS Director General HE Yerlan A. Baidaulet accompanied by IOFS Senior Country Manager Mr. Sofian Ben Mouaddeb conducted a series of bilateral meetings engaged senior officials of the Republic of Tunisia.

The first part of the meeting involved the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, HE Mrs. Neila Nouira Gongi, and mainly was dedicated to discussion of realizing profitable and sustainable bilateral cooperation, particularly, in the areas of Halal production, Food processing, and fertilizers industry in which Tunisia has proven long-term experience. Parties during this visit agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that aims to strengthen a mutual partnership between IOFS and the Ministry.



Following the day program IOFS Director General was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, HE Mr. Othman Jerandi. Officials reviewed the current state of IOFS-Tunisia bilateral relations, and Minister particularly highlighted the ongoing efforts of IOFS to address food security challenges and poverty alleviation in the OIC geography, specifically during food crises hardships that influence OIC vulnerable to food insecurity countries that are heavily dependent on the commodity imports.

In his turn, HE Mr. Baidaulet gave an overview of IOFS foundation as the OIC specialized institution, IOFS Strategic Framework and IOFS Strategy 2031 with particular attention given to the IOFS humanitarian programs. 

Another important meeting was held with Director General of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) Mr. Abdelbasset Ghanmi. During the meeting, FIPA delegation provided a brief overview of its activity conducive to attracting Foreign Direct Investments to the advantageous sectors of the Tunisian economy, such as agrifood products, tourism industry and digitization.

IOFS Director General briefly reviewed IOFS activities, and discussed opportunities for business cooperation and trade exports by implementing a partnership with IFPA, while a FIPA representative invited the IOFS side to attend the opening ceremony of the 20th edition of the Tunisia Investment Forum on June 23-24, 2022 in Tunis.
