On January 15, 2020, Director-General of IOFS Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet and DG-CEO of International IFPA Sheikh Bilal Khan met with H. E. Sajjad Ahmed Seehar, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan at the Embassy of Pakistan.
IOFS has an excellent bilateral relationship with Pakistan, which was one of the founding members of the organization. In July 2020, Pakistan ratified the IOFS Statute. The country also plays a vital role in the OIC; for instance, it will host the 48th session of CFM in Islamabad in 2021.
The Director-General informed the Ambassador about the upcoming Fourth General Assembly of the IOFS, planned to take place in Nur-Sultan in 2021. The previous Assemblies have been very successful and gained wide support from the member countries, as well as their approval of the strategic programs. It’s also worth noting that this year marks a 10-year anniversary of the official announcement of Nursultan Nazarbayev’s idea of the establishment of IOFS.
The Director-General introduced the IOFS programs to Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Seehar and mentioned the issue of mandatory contributions. Sheikh Bilal Khan, provided a review of the IFPA programme noting that most OIC countries do not play top roles in trade worldwide. That is why the IFPA entity is essential for improving the trade profile of the OIC countries and attracting investments in their agri-food sectors.
The Ambassador of Pakistan commended the ideas of IOFS and expressed great interest in cooperation with IOFS. The Director-General expressed hope that Pakistan will continue playing a strong role within the IOFS as support from member countries is vital for its further development.
