Secretariat of IOFS continues to work remotely as Kazakhstan announces 30-day quarantine
18 March 2020
Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the government declared a state of emergency and set drastic measures to combat the virus outbreak. All travel from and to the country by all means of transport is banned, except for the diplomats and individuals invited personally by the state. On 16 March, the government announced 30-day quarantine that would last up till 15 April. The security control and sanitary measures are tightened in all public places, especially in airports, railway stations, and country borders. The educational institutes and recreational facilities are temporarily closed and all major events cancelled.

As of 18 March (morning), Kazakhstan reported 35 cases of coronavirus, 18 in Nur-Sultan and 17 in Almaty. The State Commission decided to lock down the two cities to prevent the spread of coronavirus to other parts of Kazakhstan.

Due to the emergency state in the country, the IOFS Secretariat temporarily works from home in remote mode. All office phone calls (to 99-99-00) are forwarded to the mobile phone of our office manager. Thus, we ask all of our partners to continue communication with us through the office phone and email info@iofs.org.kz. The overall work goes on as usual, and we're not letting the pandemic interrupt it. Thank you all and take care of yourself and your families.
