IOFS Director Programs and Project Department Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali participated in the 24th Conference of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS) on “Challenges to Promote Science & Technology for Socio-Economic Development in OIC Countries” held in Karachi, Pakistan, during March 7 – 8, 2023 in collaboration with COMSTECH - OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation During the two-day major event, gaps are being identified for the promotion of science, technology and innovation to address the contemporary challenges of development, poverty eradication, environment, education for all, climate change, human health, and energy and water resources. The conference is bringing together the highest scientific talent who have excelled in their respective fields, and their achievements are well recognized at the national and international levels.

The major focus of the conference is to discuss the challenges for the establishment of Socio-Economic Development in Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Geography, and will come up with policy documents on different subjects. It will help the policymakers as a think tank, and will introduce new global trends and technologies in science and educational policies for the OIC Member States.

The Director is engaged to establish linkages at the intra-OIC as well as regional and international levels to strengthen capacity building in the Member States through targeted capacity-building and financial assistance.
