The second day of the working of the 45th Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural & Social Affairs (ICECS) preparatory to the 49th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) to be held on 16-17 March next at Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, was on 23rd January 2023, and His Excellency Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), took the opportunity of his participation to conduct several bilateral meetings.
The meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Eko Hartono, Permanente Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to OIC, dwelt on the opportunities the IOFS has to offer in the domain of food security to its Member States. In this context, the invitation for Indonesia to become fully-fledged IOFS Member State, was reiterated, and the matter is to merit due consideration by the most Muslim populated country in the world.
The Director General also met two OIC Assistant Secretaries General separately, one that deals with Administration & Finance, His Excellency Ambassador Musa Kulaklikaya, with whom views were exchanged on supporting structural consolidation of IOFS Secretariat, and Ambassador Tarig Bakheet, dealing with Humanitarian, Cultural & Social Affairs and the OIC Special Envoy for Afghanistan, with whom matters related with implementation of Afghanistan Food Security Program (AFSP) were discussed, including the upcoming IOFS Humanitarian Food Convoy to Afghanistan that is to be dispatched before the holy month of Ramadan.
Finally, the Director General had the opportunity to exchange views with His Excellency Mr. Taha Ayhan, President of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), on potential joint projects in terms of youth involvement with agricultural development & food security, as well as the possibility of signing an MoU on bilateral cooperation in near future.
It is important to note that the 45th ICECS will close its proceedings on 24 January 2023 at its venue, the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
