Ensuring food security is one of the most urgent issues facing the Muslim world today. According to the expert community, the Muslim population of the world will increase to 2 652.5 million people by 2050, about 29% of the total population of the globe.
The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), being a specialized food security institute, carries out activities in the following areas:
- development of Action Plans for Strategic Commodities such as wheat, rice, cassava and palm oil, with a focus on creation of stabilization funds for production of grain and other strategic goods in the value chain; - establishment of the Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA) to solve the issues of crop losses and increase the competitiveness of food and agricultural goods produced in the IOFS countries; - establishment of the Grain Fund to provide emergency food reserves for member states.
