Climate Change Expert

Required Skills and Experience

ü  Master’s Degree (or higher) in Climate Change, Sustainable Agriculture and/or Food security, with professional knowledge to Climate Change Economy, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or related field;

ü  With BSc Degree: Minimum 5 years of practical experience in thematic policy analysis and technical advisory services.

ü  Five years of relevant experience in conducting analytical studies related to the impacts of Climate change on Food Security or related international organizations;


ü  Firm command of the English language (written, spoken, comprehension);

ü  Knowledge of French and Arabic would be an advantage; 


ü   To have several publications in above-indicated fields

Duties & Responsibilities

ü  Under the supervision of the Director of Programmes & Projects Office, co-working with other Program Managers, administers elements of Technical cooperation programs or specific Climat Change Program of limited complexity and execution of technical cooperation programs and activities.

ü  Analyze and interpret Program background history and documentation; identity, reconstruct, document, and implement significant Program events, activities, decisions, and deviations.

ü  Draft sections of Program documents such as Concept Notes and justification.

ü   Inform Member Countries, experts, consultants, and other interested parties about logistical arrangements and internal procedures for monitoring and reporting regarding the immediate objectives of specific Programs.

ü  Follow up specific aspects of program execution, identify problems, and propose actions to expedite delivery of inputs.

ü   Draft comments on designated aspects of Program progress as an input to Program monitoring.

ü   Draft Program revisions, including adjusting individual Program budgets based on changed work plans.

ü   Design capacity building in climate change for IOFS personnel, field offices, and national entities.

ü   Develop and formulate technical cooperation programs in climate change in line with the guidelines and procedures governing the delivery of IOFS services and obtain internal approval.

ü  Advise, or provide technical expertise in preparing climate change adaptation and/or mitigation studies and strategies.

ü  Based on available and peer-reviewed literature, remote sensing data, and local data from national meteorological services, develop complete climate change rationales including a sound and accurate description of climate trends, projections, impacts, exposure, sensitivity, and vulnerability of agriculture fishery, forestry.

ü  Provide advice on transformational, low-carbon, and climate-resilient pathways, and support the program in the identification of relevant indicators to measure attributable results;

ü  As part of IOFS multidisciplinary teams, to written outputs such as the development of studies and technical annexes to funding proposals.

ü  Support Program managers in screening and selecting options suitable to respond effectively to the climate scenario in support of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

ü  Provide reviews on proposals in the fields of climate change adaptation and/or mitigation developed by IOFS for quality enhancement;

ü  Work with staff and contractors to develop and implement social networking strategies, develop content, and monitor and respond to inquiries;

ü  Write articles and testimonials for website and social media;

ü  Manage the Program-related information for the website, including maintain the integrity of website content and structure;

ü  Manage and execute email communications program, including quarterly e-newsletters, campaign messages, and fundraising e-appeals.

ü   Analytical and Relationship-building skills; Advanced knowledge of social media; Tech-savvy; Perfect writing skills; Advanced proficiency in MS Office; Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; Experience with graphic design and website management; social-orientated, responsible, disciplined, able to stick deadlines, executive, goal-orientated, able to perform solely and within the team;  Self-motivated and able to work with minimal oversight;  Excellent time-management and organizational skills; Detail-oriented and efficient; Knowledge of agric industry and/or international public relations a plus.
