IOFS took part in the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives

The General Secretariat of OIC invited the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and a number of other OIC institutions to take part in the virtual meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives on October 26, 2020. The extraordinary virtual meeting was held within the implementation of Paragraph 22 of the Final Communique of the virtual emergency meeting of the OIC Executive Committee on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic held at the level of foreign ministers on April 22, 2020.

The Permanent Representatives reviewed the national measures undertaken to address the coronavirus pandemic in their countries. Those included shutting down borders, enforcing social distancing, masks and sanitizers, providing humanitarian assistance to the countries in need, and medical insurance to the populations. The priority task of many countries was to minimise the impact on the economy, which was severely strained by protective measures. Many countries have started working on the development of vaccines as well.

The COVID-19 health crisis knows no borders and has affected every single person worldwide. This challenging situation makes Islamic solidarity and international cooperation ever more critical. The participants stressed on the need to mobilise international efforts to combat the pandemic and utilize the OIC mechanisms more effectively to organise the distribution of humanitarian help.

The representatives of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), the Statistical, Economic Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), and the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) were present at the event as well.
