Dubai’s food safety, security indicators remained highly positive in 2021, Dubai Municipality says

According to the ‘Gulf News’ article published on March 29, 2022 Dubai’s food safety and security indicators have shown positive outcomes in 2022, the Emirate imported 7.9 million tonnes of food, which included 286,673 food shipments and more than 1.7 million food products. Number of measures to ensure strong food quality control and enhance the stability of food imports embodied highly positive food safety indicators.

Director General of Dubai Municipality, Dawoud Al Hajri stated about adopting innovative initiatives and programmes to implement an integrated food safety system that enables the access to the high quality food. This newly introduced food safety control system allows rapid advances in food processing and preparation and follows best international practices. Additionally, the Dubai municipality administers comprehensive monitoring of the imported goods throughout emirates retail chains that ensures a highly stable imports line. Also smooth movement of food trade and measures of diversification of food variety provides consumers with a wide range of goods.
 
The Dubai municipality cooperates with both federal and local bodies to enable strengthening of the food supply chain. All these measures facilitate implementation of national goals to enhance food security, also to rank highest indicators in the Global Food Security Index by 2051.
