INNOVATIVE FOOD SYSTEMS KEY TO TACKLING GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS, SAY EXPERTS

Food wastage of fresh food rose up to 40-70 per cent caused by unfavourable storage conditions or poor handling indicated as one of the reasons for price inflation. Other factors mentioned there were a reduction of farm labour capacity, also significant volume of crop left in fields after harvests. Additionally, more than 20 countries omposed economic sanctions and food export bans as of August 2022. Consequently, policymakers and other decision makers are seeking new strategies to transform supply chains to modify food security and enable access to healthy nutrition.

Scheduled in October 2022 first Middle East World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Conference aims to gather state officials, leading fresh food producers and wholesale market representatives to review major issues and possible new approaches to advance food and farming industries.

The article refers to the statement made by H.E. Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director General of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) that the UAE enabling proactive steps to develop agile food supply chains and support technology-enabled food production, thereto the country actively working with global partners to share advanced experiences and solve critical problems of global food supply chains.
 
ADAFSA initiated several projects to enhance accessibility and competitiveness local food production. These policies also aim to support food and agricultural supportive industries, also to improve wholesale markets for livestock.
