IOFS HAS STARTED A WORKSHOP IN TUNIS

On June 20, 2022 IOFS Training Workshop titled “Genetic Resources and Gene Bank Management” started in Tunis, the Republic of Tunisia during 20-28 June 2022. The event, organized within the celebration of the “IOFS 2022 Year of Africa” initiative was inaugurated with opening speech by IOFS Director General HE Yerlan A. Baidaulet and the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Tunisia HE Mrs. Leila Chikhaoui.





National Gene Bank of Tunisia (BNG) as a hosting party introduced a Plant Genetic Resources program for breeders, researchers, farmers, and gene bank staff with the aim to assist in facilitating the studying and preservation of crop materials. Participating countries briefly discussed the present situation and proposals for the improvement of plant gene banks to preserve and maintain genetic resources biodiversity.


Furthermore, National Gene Bank of Tunisia Director General Mr. Ramzi Chaabane provides a resourceful presentation on the current ongoing programs of the Institute while former Tunisian Gene Bank Director General Pr. Mbarek Ben Naceur discussed the rules of governing access and exploitation of genetic heritage in the framework of a National and International partnership. Genetic Resources Manager of the BNG Dr. Olfa Saddoud reviewed genetic resource conservation approaches.
