IOFS took part in Second Meeting of OIC Water Council in Cairo

On 21-22 October, Islamic Organization for Food Security participated in the second Meeting of OIC Water Council held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting was sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt. Mr. Faraj Ahmed, Country and Program Manager of IOFS attended the meeting.
Representatives of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone and international organizations such as OIC, SESRIC, INWRDAM, ICBA, IsDB, and ISESCO participated in the session.
Representatives of SESRIC, ISESCO, ISDB, INWRDAM reported on their activities and work undertaken since the first Meeting of OIC Water Council, held in Turkey in November of 2017.
Representative of IOFS, Mr. Faraj Elzarook was given the opportunity to introduce the Islamic Organization for Food Security and brief its plans. On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Elzarook discussed issues of cooperation with the SESRIC, INWRDAM, ICBA and ISESCO organizations. He was also acquinted with Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Water in Saudi Arabia, Under-Secretary of Ministry of Water in Yemen and the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Egypt.
The second meeting of OIC Water Council focused on addressing existing problems, finding ways to help countries that face water shortages, collaboration on innovative research and developing strategies on water resources.
Following the meeting, participants agreed to the necessity to participate at the third meeting of OIC Water Council, which is to be held in Saudi Arabia in 2020.
