Halal products certification will boost Nigeria’s agricultural sector – minister

The review prepared by Chinenye Offor for the News Agency of Nigeria refers to the statement by the Nigeria’s Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment about Operational Framework for Halal Certification. Minister Mariam Katagum emphasized correlation between Halal product certification and increasing of investments into Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
 
State official noted the urgency for Nigeria of entering into the vast and profitable economy of halal market to boost demand for Nigerian products and integrate to the global market. She particularly highlighted an increasing demand for halal certified products globally, mainly among the large Muslim population in the Middle East, North Africa that presents a lucrative chain for the food market and profitable segment of the economy.
 
The ministry is planning to establish a special committee to implement the instituting of Halal standards in the country thereby Nigerian products will be widely represented in local and international markets.
