OIC calls for urgent Islamic action towards humanitarian assistance to Afghan people

The 17th Extraordinary OIC CFM session today on 19 December has adopted a resolution on Humanitarian situation in Afghanistan emphasizing a key role of IOFS (para 18 and 19)  in realizing the OIC Afghanistan Food Security Programme.

Before the adoption of this resolution the IOFS Director General HE Yerlan A. Baidaulet  participated in deliberations and held a statement during the country debates session of the Ministerial conference that was warmly received by all participants of the event.

During the day the IOFS Director General held short meetings with HE Amb. Tareq Ali Bakheet, OIC Assistant of the Secretary General, HE Mr.Khusrav Noziri, ECO Secretary General, with HE Mr. Shakhrat S. Nuryshev, the first VM of Foreign Affairs, with HE Mr. Mehmet Metin Eker, Permanent Representative of Turkey to OIC, with HE Mr. Omar Gibril Sallah, Ambassador of Gambia to KSA. Also Mr.Yerlan Baidaulet has discussed important working issues with HE Mr Ayman Aly Kamel, First Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry of Egypt, with HE Mr. Hani Siraj Tayeb, Islamic Solidarity Fund under OIC, with Dr.Zamir Iqbal, VP Finance, IsDB and with Mr.Robert Mardini, Director General, ICRC.

The 4th proposal of the Pakistani 6-point Strategy for Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan announced by the Foreign Minister Mr. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi is that the Islamic Organization for Food Security can and must lead the process on strengthening food security in Afghanistan.
