General Assembly: Senior Officials Meeting on August 28

On August 28, the IOFS Senior Officials held a Meeting with representatives of agricultural and food security bodies in Jeddah to discuss financial and institutional issues of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, as well as other important topics of the agenda.
The IOFS presented to the delegates a proposal to establish the Islamic Food Processing Association, as tackling major food-loss problems is among its top agenda goals.
The international organizations, on their side, provided the participants with extremely comprehensive and informative reports on the state of affairs within their structures.
One of the participants, CILSS organization was established to address political and regional issues of desertification and ensure dynamic growth of the population and wildlife. CILSS consists of 13 states and aims to attract investments for food security research, fight desertification and reach environmental balance in Saheel through analysis, elaboration and coordination of relevant strategies and policies.

Cameroon delegation also discussed environmental research, such as the impact of climate change on food security. On the basis of FAO results, a national strategy on food security has been elaborated covering analysis, research and mid-term assessments. Cameroon informed that it intends to introduce the program in 2020. The strategy is intended to ensure that UN activity is directed in humanitarian dimension.
On the sidelines of the event, Director General of IOFS also held productive meetings with delegations of Somalia and Yemen. The parties discussed pressing issues of food security and made agreements on permanent cooperation in all adjoint affairs.
