IRANIAN FOOD CONSUMPTION PLUMMETS AS PRICES SOAR

Consumption of some groceries to plunge in Iran due to soaring prices for food and impending food insecurity threat. Price skyrocketing largely affected on consumption of fruits and vegetables which according to the Fruit and Vegetable Sellers Association representative dropped by as much as 30%.

Iranians are mainly concerned about purchasing basic foodstuffs, sales of overall food industry products in the country had fallen by half, according to the head of the Food Industry Federation. In the meantime, dairy prices increased 80 percent last month, while its consumption had decreased by 20 percent in recent months.

Significant inflation rate hit 52.5 percent in Iran economy unleashed mass protests and stirred public hospitals, prisons, and other social institutions that are encountered with food shortages.

Food supplies disruption could hit more Iranian public institutions in the coming weeks.
