WORKSHOP ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF DATABASES ON AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS
18 May 2022
Within the celebration of “2022 as Year of Africa” the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) is pleased to extend an invitation for the Opening Ceremony of the Workshop on the Development of Databases on Agricultural Statistics, scheduled to be held on 18-19 May 2022 in Niamey, the Republic of Niger, as a joint event of IOFS and the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS).

The event in reference is held within the framework of CILSS expertise in dealing with inadequacies of existing information systems in the West African countries and in line with ECOWAS integrated regional information system on the agricultural sector called “ECOAGRIS” established in January 2005, as well as within the establishing process of the IOFS Food Balance Database, which is to monitor the food security level of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In this context, the aforesaid workshop is convened for representatives of agricultural statistics from IOFS/CILSS common Member States to exchange experiences and learn more on the management of agricultural data with IOFS Food Balance Database and the ECOAGRIS platforms. The participants are also i) to be trained with the objectives, functioning and content of both platforms; ii) to learn how to use the platforms (parameterization, data entry, data validation and generation of indicators); and iii) to review the indicators of the agricultural production module in order to define the most relevant indicators to be filled in by all participating countries.
