23 July 2019

A regular meeting of Vice-Minister of Agriculture Gulmira Issayeva and Acting Director General of the Secretariat of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) Yerlan Baidaulet was held in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan on July 22, 2019.

The issues concerning preparation procedures for the Second IOFS General Assembly to be held on 27-29 August 2019 in Jeddah, where Saparkhan Omarov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan will take part, were discussed.

The issues of ensuring food security of the IOFS Member States were discussed, taking into account the interest of each Member State, for example, in the export/import of food produced by the Member States themselves.

Membership in the Organization provides direct benefits for Kazakhstan in expanding capacity of food exports, developing and/or modernizing agricultural infrastructure. As part of the Organization’s activities, Kazakhstan will be able to withdraw at least 1 million tons of wheat from domestic circulation, raise funds from the Islamic Development Bank for infrastructure projects within the country and in the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan, attract direct investment in the economy of the country using Islamic financial instruments.
